Altar & Rosary Society
What we do: Support our church, our congregation, our community and the world community. Devote ourselves to the welfare of people by aiding with housing, clothing and food items. Support our schools, the elderly and the homeless.

Art & Environment Committee
What we do: We decide as a committee the environment for the church for feast days and liturgical seasons. We also provide the manpower to decorate for these occasions and we do limited corresponding decorations for the narthex. We also water and maintain the plants in the church and surrounding areas.

Babysitting Coordinator
St. Pius X is currently looking for a person to fill this role who can organize and arrange childcare for all activities at the church. We are open to all ideas to accomplish this outcome. If you are interested in starting and setting up this ministry, please contact the parish office 276-2059.

Boy Scouts
Boy Scout Troop 43 meets every Monday evening at 7:00 PM.

Building & Grounds
What we do: Maintain the parish buildings, enhance the beauty of the parish grounds and work with parish groups to approve building or outdoor projects.
Time Commitment: Monthly meetings held on the third Tuesday of each month.

Catholic Charities Ambassadors
What we do: Devoted to offering a helping hand, through generosity of time or donations, plus challenging those assumptions and systems that make it difficult for individuals to improve their lives. Sample services include adoptions, counseling, outreach, emergency shelters, refugee resettlement and food pantries.

Connection Café
What we do: Plan, prepare and serve the meal on the first Saturday of each month to homeless and hungry guests of the Connection Cafe in downtown Des Moines.

Cub Scout Leader
Cub Scouts are active at St. Pius X.

Food Pantry/Catholic Worker House
What we do: Take turns with other volunteer families to pick up the Food Pantry donations (both food and money), count them and deliver them to the Food Pantry drop-off the next day. The Catholic Worker House donations are counted and dropped off at the St. Pius X Office.

Fourth of July Parade Float Committee
What we do:  Build community in the parish and within the city as we raise awareness of the St. Pius X family.  This sponsored activity is fun for families and parishioners of all ages.

Funeral Luncheon
What we do: Prep for funeral luncheons including arranging meat, cheese, relish and cookie trays as well as preparing baked beans, coffee and lemonade. Set-up serving tables with plates, silverware, napkins and cups as well as place water pitchers and centerpieces on each table. Clean up following the luncheon includes washing dishes, packaging leftover food and cleaning tables. There is also the option to be on a call list to just supply the food needed.

Gabriel Project
What we do: Seeks to save babies, but also to save women from years of (and sometimes eternal) spiritual darkness and death. It is a parish-based, "hands-on" help program in which parishioners assist women in need with friendship and coordinate their needs such as transportation for medical care, housing, food, material needs and baby needs.

Girl Scouts Leader
Girl Scout troops are active at St. Pius X.

Habitat for Humanity
What we do: Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity partners with St. Pius X and with God's people in need to build hope and a greater Des Moines. In partnership, decent and affordable homeownership is provided for qualified low-income families. This is a uniquely local and tangible opportunity to join in building a better community. Holy Hands
What we do: Holy Hands started in 2010 and is an annual light handiwork ministry held each fall on a Saturday afternoon.   Volunteers sign up to give their time to people in our community who need help with small projects.  These projects include raking leaves, washing windows, light carpentry, removing trash, cleaning out their garage or just going to their house for a visit.

Holy Name Society
What we do: We are a Christian, men's organization that promotes respect for the most Holy Name of God, faith in the Catholic Church and loyalty to one's country and respect for all lawful authority, both civil and religious. We supplement a variety of parish and community projects with manpower and financial resources. The proceeds from our Lenten Fish Fry, Golf Outing and various other fundraising projects go towards the physical improvement and equipment needs of the parish.

Knights of Columbus
What we do: Imagine being part of an organization that fills your heart and your mind with the joy of giving to others and the feeling that comes with making a difference. Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older. Being a Knight is more than camaraderie; it is being involved with your community; it is supporting your local Catholic Church, while enhancing your own faith; it is about protecting and enhancing your family life.

Media and Communications
What we do: Coordinate and disseminate the flow of information about St. Pius X parish through the church bulletin, mass announcements, the parish website and social media such as Twitter and Facebook.

Outreach/Homeless Committee
What we do: Participates in outreach projects as directed by the parish council. Works with meeting the emergency needs of individual families.

What we do: Advise administration on policies, procedures and decisions related to the school and faith formation programs. Participate on several committees that support the school and parish to enhance the experience parishioners and visitors have when involved in activities in and around our campus.

Pastoral Care/Pius Cares
What we do: One-on-one ministry in various crisis areas. Makes visits to hospitals, nursing homes and personal residences: Takes Communion to the sick and homebound. Is a health and community resource for all age groups.  Coordinates “Pius Cares", a ministry that provides transportation to church, doctors, etc., meals during crisis and emergency babysitting.

Respect Life Committee
What we do:  Promote and defend the intrinsic, God-given value, purpose and sacredness of all human life, from the moment of conception until natural death.

Salvation Army Casserole Committee
What we do:  Coordinate the monthly collection and distribution of casseroles to be distributed to the hungry and homeless of our community.  For more information, see Salvation Army breakfast program.

What we do:  Help the needy and poor of our city and parish.

Social Justice Committee
What we do:  Intend to be a catalyst for the work of social justice.  Attempt to raise awareness about Catholic social teaching by frequently and in different ways publishing the Bishops’ 7 teachings on social justice and by having parish events in which social justice issues are explained and discussed.  We sell Fair Trade Coffee once a month in support of fair wages for small farmers in Third World countries and organize the breakfast casseroles every other month for the Salvation Army breakfast program.  We always promote simplified living.

What we do:  Provide packaged foods and miscellaneous items on a given time to those in need within the community.

What we do: Our mission is to support the school administration, teachers and staff by fundraising and providing community building events. Examples include annual Dinner & Auctions and Family Fun Nights, assistance toward the air conditioning system for the school, SMART Boards in the school, items purchased for classrooms and support for continuing education of our teachers.
